Harlequin: putting the e into e-learning

E-learning case study : Marsh

Harlequin to assist with launch and on-going growth of Marsh Learning Connect - the global e-learning platform for Marsh

As the world's leading insurance broker and risk advisor, Marsh is devoted to finding the opportunity in risk. Companies look to Marsh to help them navigate the daunting global risk landscape, seeing risks others don't and unlocking opportunities others can't.

Opportunity never comes without risk. Marsh helps clients transform risk from a liability into an advantage, enabling them to seize opportunities and achieve things they otherwise could not.

Client brief

To develop an extensive portfolio of e-learning training materials for delivery to both colleagues and clients including titles such as Using the Learning Management System (LMS), Learning online, Performance management, Marketing 101, Insurance Due Diligence, Transactional Risk, Environmental Insurance, Global induction, Director and officer liability, Health and safety at work and Risk management for lawyers.  Many of these titles were localisation for six language regions.

In addition to creating many hours of e-learning, we were also commissioned to create the template from which all other e-learning materials would be derived within Marsh and to run a series of workshops and provide on-going support for the internal development of e-learning content.  This often extends to us creating and consulting on individual components and engagements to enhance internally created materials.

Approach

Applying our standard development methodology for each engagement has ensured a consistent and reliable approach to the creation of each course.  Working with subject matter experts, many of whom have been based in offices remote from the UK, has been a structured and disciplined activity, which has delivered locally focussed but globally accessible training materials.  Time differences often worked in favour of rapid production, with a rolling development and review programme delivering up to sixteen hour days to the project.

Result

The courses have been widely used throughout the organisation with completion and satisfaction surveys reporting broad acceptance from all levels within the organisation.  After achieving highly positive feedback, Marsh felt confident to introduce us to numerous clients, for whom we continue to develop an ever expanding range of e-learning training materials and courses.
